Loveland Liberty 5k

So this race didn’t go all that well for me, this year. It wasn’t terrible, and I did beat my time from {last year} by two minutes. I was feeling fine prior to the race, but was a little nervous about my knees which were hurting a little from my bike ride to and from work Wednesday. My knees actually felt a bit better while I was running, but my legs felt like lead and by mile 2 my blister foot was burning. I ended up walking all of mile 2 because of it. It’s a bummer because my mile one and mile 3 times were pretty good and had I kept that same pacing for mile 2 instead of walking it I probably would have got a 5k PR. Oh well. I showed up, and I tried.

Jerry and all the kids ran the race, today, too. Lily ran with my mom; Caleb, Tylor, Nate, and Kyndall ran by themselves; Jerry and Ian ran together per my request.
Ian has had a hard time at the last few races he’s done. He pushes himself too hard and ends up vomiting at some point either during the race or right after. I’m wondering if that’s why he’s been so against running races lately. I had Jerry run with him to help him maintain a steadier pace that wasn’t going to make him get sick. I figured Jerry could help him decide when to slow down or walk. It worked – Ian didn’t get sick.

Nate and Caleb both got PR’s by several minutes. Nate finished in 23:47 beating his previous best of 27:14 and Caleb finished in 29:39 beating his previous best of 32:41
Kyndall and Tylor didn’t get their best times, but this was also their first race in over a year and did really well despite the break. They were right on pace with their previous race times. Of course, Kyndall has been doing kettlebell, and Tylor has been playing baseball so they’ve both still stayed in good shape.
Lily was just being Lily out there. She is easily distracted and still doesn’t really know how to push herself and running with my mom doesn’t help because she’s afraid to push Lily too hard, too. Lily’s getting better though, and she still got a good time, right on pace with her average.
I’m so proud of my kids. I love it when they get out there and run the races too.
Finish times:
Nate 23:47
Caleb 29:39
Jerry & Ian 34:39
Tylor 41:31
Kyndall 43:11
Lily 40:21
Me 45:23
