My Journey - Week 59

July 16 - 22
Well, I didn't do any running this week, but I did end my week with my first bike ride in about a year. I let Jerry convince me to ride out to our kids' baseball games this morning. He really did have to convince me too. It was noon, and getting hotter by the minute, and I've been really hesitant to get back on the bike after all the knee pain I had from riding last summer. I decided to give it a shot, praying that all my running and working out this past year had strengthened my muscles enough to let me ride without it hurting. It ended up going really well. I wore my garmin and we rode the 5.3 miles to the baseball fields at about a 5 to 6 minute mile average pace, making it in almost exactly 30 minutes. We stayed and watched about 4 hours of baseball and drank tons of water. My knee was feeling totally fine, so we decided that instead of riding back home, we'd ride to my moms and get our van that we had left there Saturday night. So instead of 5.3 miles home, we went 9 miles to moms... it was a much tougher ride than our ride to the baseball fields, with the already kinda tired muscles, the hours in the sun, and a couple of great big hills that I totally would have walked my bike up last summer, but I made it, stopping for water once, and stopping to get the sweat and sunblock out of my eyes once as well. It took just under an hour, and brought our total biking distance to 14.5 miles for the day. Best part - no knee pain, still. Now I just hope that I'm not too sore the next couple days!
