I’m not really sure what happened this week (except life),
but I was a real slacker. I didn’t go to kettlebell, and I didn’t run until
this weekend. I just was too busy, and wasn’t feeling it. Probably not a good
plan, since my long runs are about to start pushing my comfort zone starting
next week. My goal for next week is to keep on schedule for my running, all
week!
Saturday’s long run was supposed to be 5 miles, and the
kids’ run club at school was offering an hour and a half at the school around
the corner from our house to make up miles. The kids’ soccer games weren’t
until later in the day, so we went, hoping to be able to put in our 5 miles. We
started just a little bit late, and I had no idea how annoying, distracting,
and boring running 5 miles on a track could be, so by the time we had to turn
the track over to another group, I had only got 4.5 miles in. I figured that
was close enough to call it good, but thought maybe I’d try to put in another
mile at home, later that evening. It didn’t happen.
Today, I did my “easy run”. Lily was complaining about a
side ache and leg cramp and didn’t want to run, so we did a little stretching
and I told her to just jog with me. We went at a good comfortable pace, and
made it the whole 2 miles without stopping. Sometimes, that’s still an issue
for me. It’s getting better, but I have days where I just can’t go a whole mile
without stopping for a walk break. Lily’s aches and pains went away soon after
running, and she decided she likes “easy runs”.
The kids have been telling people that they, too, are
training for a half marathon, so Jerry and I had a little conversation with
them. The biggest problem is that most half/full marathons have a minimum age
requirement of between 12 & 16. But we did find out that the Slacker Half
Marathon (which would have been my first had I not decided to do the Rock ‘n’
Roll San Diego) is family friendly with no age requirement, and cheap
registration! Kids under 12 are only $20. That’s cheaper than most of the 5k’s
we sign up for. Since it’s only 3 weeks after my first, I’m not doing it, but I
told the kids if they are really going to do the training, that I would
register them. I may do the 4 mile course, since I’ll be there though. My brave
husband, who swore he had no interest in ever doing a half marathon, even said
he’d sign up so he could run with them. They do fine at the 5k’s, but 13.1
miles is a long way for this mommy to wait for them to run all by themselves,
worrying that they might make a wrong turn or get hurt. So, I guess my little
running buddies will be continuing on this training program with me. I had
figured this would be their last week or two of long runs with me. I’m excited
for them!
I also had a follow up with the nutritionist on Friday. My
BMI was down 1% since January 15th, and I was down 5 lbs from March
15th. Hopefully this latest change will prove to be what I needed
and my results will continue to move in the right direction! I’ll be checking
in with the nutritionist again in 2 weeks, to continue to monitor my progress.
