2/4-2/10

I found out about this program, called Ideal Protein, which sounded like a doctor supervised version of the high protein diet plan I started following, so I scheduled a consultation and went to check it out on Tuesday. I was excited about the idea of having some additional support to help keep me from hitting a plateau and hopefully help me keep my food choices good, while maintaining some variety.  At the appointment, I found out that it’s not actually doctor supervised. It’s supervised by a physical therapist that’s “licensed” by the program. Additionally, the program itself isn’t really like my high protein plan, after all. It’s like the Atkins Diet meets Jenny Craig – 4 phases, no carbs and high protein to start as you work in more “good” carbs in the later phases, all while purchasing their overpriced, prepackaged foods. I didn’t sign up.

Wednesday, I had my follow up appointment with my doctor to go over my recent blood work and progress. I told him about the high protein plan Max Muscle recommended, and he gave me the green light to follow through with it. That was encouraging, especially after seeing some positive results. My blood work numbers have improved over my last test, and my high testosterone issue showed the most change, going from being twice as high as the high limit, to being in the higher end of the normal range. One issue down, 4 more to go! My BMI is down and my weight is down 11 lbs from my last visit, so it looks like things are moving in the right direction!

My knees hurt Thursday morning (possibly from Kettlebell, Wednesday night?) so I walked at run club with the kids.

Week two of my 1900 Cal/150g protein diet is complete. As of this morning, I’m down 3.4lbs since starting. That’s quite an encouraging start. It’s still hard to remember to eat frequently enough, since I’m still not hungry by the time I’m supposed to eat, but I don’t mind as much. Seeing the progress helps me keep it in perspective. This is a sustainable change.  Since I have my doctor’s ok, and I’m seeing good results, I’m going to continue and see where this takes me.
