Nov. 21st – 27th
This was a short week for me. I only worked on Monday and Tuesday, and didn’t work out with Wanda, because we took off for Iowa on Wednesday morning for Thanksgiving with Jerry’s family. Tuesday night, before we finished packing, we did go for a great run, though. The kids were acting unsure about running the 5k (which is next weekend), so since we totally screwed up the last week of our 5k program and I’m making it up as we go along now, we decided to run an unofficial 5k that Jerry and I mapped out. The kids were skeptical, but they did it. Jerry beat them all back, so he took their times as they came in, which they thought was pretty cool. I managed to run all but just a minute of the route, because I got a side cramp – we really need to stop running after dinner! I walked off the cramp and ran again, finishing at 49:05. Better than my first attempt. Now I just need to get better at running uphill, because those were some big ones! We were in the car all day on Wednesday, but we did get up and run after breakfast on Thursday morning. Jerry mapped out a 2 mile run for us that he used to run for cross country practice in his home town. We had more hills to run, and it was tough, but I got through it. I did lots of stretching this week, too. Especially the day after those runs, because I had some tight muscles. I’m still looking forward to the Colder Boulder, though. I’ve decided I really do like running, too. Now I just need to push myself to speed up.
My plan for increasing my speed is to start the 5k program again, but this time pushing myself to do each run faster than my “comfortable” pace. I will also continue my 30 minute runs, and unofficial 5k’s to maintain my endurance. After that, I’ll need to start on the bridge to 10k program to get trained for the 10k in May… I still can’t believe I’m doing this!
