5/20-5/26
We are officially one week out from the big race! I’m
getting really excited, and a little bit nervous. I know I’m ready, both
physically and mentally, but I had another rough week. I didn’t get in any
weekday runs or kettlebell again which scares me a little, but my knee was
still hurting and I really wanted to let it recover. I was up and down the
stairs and a ladder all evening Friday and all day Saturday and it was doing
ok, so I did go out for my 5 mile run today. It went ok.
I went out really fast and had my second fastest mile time
for mile 1 (11:57). Everything was
feeling good, for the most part. My rib started to hurt briefly, but I was able
to massage in back into place. It was kinda warm and humid and I was having
trouble getting my breathing right. I just felt like I couldn’t fully inflate
my lungs, which was a bummer because it felt pretty good to go as fast as I did
for mile 1, but I just had to slow down and really work to loosen up my lungs.
I slowed my pace and got into a decent groove, but around mile 3 I switched to
2:1 intervals to give my knee a little break. It was really starting to hurt
again. I kept up the intervals the rest of the way home, and ended up finishing
my run with a 1:13 finish time which is about 30 seconds faster than my
downhill 5 mile race I did last September. That made me happy, because even
though it wasn’t a super hilly run today, it wasn’t downhill either!
I have a 2 mile run and two 20 minute runs to go before race
day. I’m hoping that’s enough to keep me loose and energized for next Sunday! I’m
just going to have to trust my training.
Weekly totals:
5 Miles ran, 1 lbs lost
