5/14-5/20
I couldn’t squeeze in a workout with Wanda until Friday this
week, but I did manage to get in two more 1 mile run/walks on Tuesday and
Wednesday. They were still tough, but this time it was a physical challenge and
not so much a mental one. My biggest struggle with those two runs was my
breathing. I just couldn’t stretch my lungs out enough to maintain any
distance. Jerry suggested that we start our running program over, so I’m
thinking we might dust off our Couch to 5k schedule and see how it goes. The
good news is that when I was running, my previous “comfortable pace” of about
4.5 mph felt too slow and awkward. I was checking out my runkeeper app, and it
looks like a pace of about 5.5 to 6 mph is where I was running and feeling
comfortable (except the lack of oxygen, but breathing is overrated, right?!) I
think if we start the program over, this will be a good opportunity to push
myself to get and stay comfortable with a 6 mph pace, which is my goal – 10 minute
miles.
